The big energy rate disparity facing
Missouri small businesses
Did you know Missouri’s small businesses pay much more for power than large industrial corporations? It’s true. It’s unfair. And it’s got to stop. Learn how MBEF is working to end the discrimination, and then join our fight.
A good deal for them is a bad deal for you
In our state, big corporations benefit from special rate classes, in one case paying less than half of what other customers pay per kilowatt-hour of electricity.
These large corporations dodge rate increases, leaving the rest of us to pick up the tab. Over the last five years, industrial power rates increased just 8.6% while rates for Missouri small businesses and residential customers rose 27.7%.¹

Say no to new changes
These same corporations are asking Missouri citizens to approve a ballot initiative that would widen the rate gap even further.
In 2008, Missouri voters approved a Renewable Energy Standard (RES) that expanded the use of renewable energy — a smart move, since Missouri is home to vast renewable and alternative energy sources. But now, big companies want to change the way the RES works. Through voting and legislation, they want to pass the largest share of rate increases onto small businesses and families. Increases 200 times larger than what big users would see.
That’s a financial burden you shouldn’t have to shoulder, so we’re doing something about it. And you can help.
